Everyday Maths and English Skills Courses

A range of maths and English courses to help you improve the basic skills you need everyday. These courses can help you gain a nationally recognised Certificate in Adult Numeracy and Literacy (Skills for Life Tests) – because there’s nothing like an extra qualification to prove how much you’ve learnt!

These new courses are designed to be interactive with many opportunities to practise new skills and test your progress as you go along. They also include features such as the opportunity to put your new skills into practise in familiar situations; feedback and hints on how to complete activities and a skills summary at the end for you to take away.

Before you enrol on a course you’ll be able to take a Skills Check to assess what you already know and find the areas you need to work on. This will help you choose a course and a level that’s right for you.

Everyday Maths Skills

We use numbers every day – in our jobs, at the shops and even to help our kids with their homework! A better understanding of numbers will improve your confidence and help you to get ahead at home and at work.

What will I learn?

After completing courses in this range, you’ll be able to:

• Work with whole numbers
• Understand fractions and decimals
• Take measurements confidently and accurately
• Describe spaces and shapes
• Understand the information shown in graphs and charts

Everyday English Skills

Whether you need to follow written instructions at work or have to fill out a form at the doctor’s, being able to read and understand English and write it down clearly is important if you want to make yourself understood.\

What will I learn?

After completing courses in this range, you’ll be able to:

• Read and understand a range of everyday texts
• Write in complete sentences
• Use punctuation correctly
• Understand common spelling rules
• Plan, organise and check a written document
